I remember in the olden days Nelly Furtado sung songs "I'm like a bird etc" and no one gave a damn. And suddenly she's the hottest thing around with some sleazy lyrics and boodyshaking. Hmm.. I think I have become so used to being fed the lyric-defunct high-on-beat-and-tempo junk music, my brain processes real English language and English pop music as totally different entities. For someone who can still get punch-drunk for no reason on tracks like Gasolina, these Tutus strike a hell of a lot of meaning. We might be a generation filled with linguistically deranged beings but we sure have an ear to appreciate when someone croons the most visceral of body sounds.
