Not necessarily by going out of India for a while but even staying away from home, say in a different city. Makes one appreciate home so much (and vice versa in a few cases) Karan: I wont get tired of saying this but whatever you said there makes complete sense to me. The rift in my case is amplified even more because apart from the 'imposed' personalities, because of the whole NRI situation, there already lay more than one personality in the first place :P But as I said, lets not even go into that. I must say having spent a long long time out of India now, I don't find it as awkward as I used to before. But there are times when one feels like a fish out of water in various ways, in both places. That parallel universe analogy is like the best one for existing as an NRI. Even I feel like a totally different person when I am talking to family back home. Maybe its this barrage of typical Indian sensibilities (the colloquialisms, the multitude of culture-specific ideas we take for granted) that we all come with that don't need explaining when talking to people from there and one's interaction with people in foreign lands is a tad different as either explaining those sensibilities and mindsets is just too long-winded and would make you look like a complete jerk. Imagine talking to someone and explaining why you said what you just said after every sentence. Its all very subtle but with me, it happens almost everyday. For me, this interaction is quite an integral part of my dual-personality and the fact that I am in a very people-oriented profession only exaggerates this communicating-doppelgänger effect hehe God.... someone treat my rambophillia.
