The penultimate day
Published by Jedi September 23rd, 2006 in IndiaDay 25 of my stay in the Bharatvarsha. This is the day before I finally depart. A sad day for me and that too for my friends and dear ones, or at least that’s what they pretend. A full month of me can make people very happy and equally miserable. Depends on how you look at it. But I must admit even those who find me infuriating, actually miss me and have confessed to this fact. I never quite understood that.
Just when I think about the fact that I am flying away tomorrow I suddenly realize there is loads still left for me to do. Today being a Sunday doesn’t help at all. It means, as usual, I’ll be running around the whole day tomorrow. Knowing me and my penchant for the last minute everything, its hardly surprising. Once again, I ask myself pointless questions. Like, why must I do everything at the eleventh hour? Why didn’t I do it earlier? Why don’t I ever learn? Then make a note to myself. Next time I must finish all this well in advance.. knowing full well that this is nothing but an empty promise. I guess, some things are permanently programmed into you right from birth. Trying to fight them is like trying go against your very nature.
Anyhow, nothing much to do on a lazy Sunday, but it wasn’t without its share of entertainment. Another Indo-Pak match, the last in the series, and another brilliant win by India. Even more brilliant because so many of the players were rested. What a fine matchplayer Yuvraj has become and what a sharpshooter Dhoni is too? With them at the crease, no target seems like a huge target. I don’t know what the future holds for them, but this pair could do wonders for India provided they continue applying themselves as they have in this series. Well done India for a commanding 4-1 series win! I can’t remember the last time India beat Pak so convincingly in an ODI series. The only thing that comes close is that unofficial series I remember, played ages back somewhere in Canada. India won that convincingly with a 4-1 final tally and Ganguli shone as a bowler. Back then, it was a bit of a strange result actually. Somehow, the term match-fixing springs to mind or maybe Ganguli was a ahem.. deadly bowler back then. No disrespect to Dada!
The last two days have been pretty hectic. I have discovered new things about myself. Tolerance, forgiveness, compassion - I didn’t think I was capable of all this. Ok, I’m being a bit harsh on myself. Of course, I have always shown these traits and so I firmly believe must all human beings to some extent, no matter how wretched they are. But what I didn’t know was that I possessed these qualities in abundance. Either that, or the inevitable has happened - I am getting old!

Hehe… I like this casual way in which you get up after 15 days and think, oh there’s still a day of my trip to India left to chronicle. Seriously, man, as Suyog puts it, jaldi finish kar isko.
BTW that last minute thing is like one of the basic truths of my mundane existence too. Well, I suppose its the only way you can challenge your senses to do the most banal of chores. Like who in his right mind would waste 1 hour trying to sort out what to wear the next day, what notes to carry etc etc when all that (and more) can be done 5 minutes the next morning. I think its fun. And however lame my last sentence might be, its still a justification for never mending my last minute ways.
And yea, in the picture, doesn’t that chandarbindu-without-dot thingy on top of Chaat make it Chaut? I thot that was funny.

Hehe I also always make the list and try and do the shopping in the first week. But On last day when i check i see I have bought a lot stuff, of which only half is on the list :p Then I go running around on the last day as always.
I don’t know why but when I leave India I always have a sense of relief and I don’t feel sad (or happy). I only start missing home after couple of months.
