Cineplexes have sprung up all over Delhi just like malls. Most of them are inside malls anyway, which is a great business idea. This also has huge benefits for the male gender of the homosapien species. You can now take all the ladies including right upto your grandmother and let them *shop* for hours together, while you sit in the peace and quiet of the cinema hall enjoying your movie. It doesn't even matter if you like the movie. You could take a nap if you wanted to. Anything to protect you from the horrors of female-accompanied-shopping.
Anyhow, I'd planned on seeing Rang De Basanti anyway, not only because of all the hype surrounding it but for lack of anything better too. What can I say about the movie? Post movie I realized that my opinion differed a lot from that of the general audience. By now I find that hardly surprising, but I never thought there was this huge a gap in perception. While others were in total awe of it, I thought it was none too special and even *disliked* a few things about it. I guess opinions vary. A few things about Aamir Khan. For me Aamir Khan was/is a chocolate hero. Ok that was a bit harsh, but I mean no matter what he does, his “macho†image only invokes laughter rather than impress. Again in RDB he went into his big moustache mode and suddenly shrieks of “Mangala Mangala Mangala Hooo!†started ringing in my head. Wearing a huge pointy moustache and making your eyes big does *not* make anyone look cool. And Aamir Khan's Punjabi accent.. Jeez! Here's one guy who prepares his roles for years, and then doesn't pay attention to subtleties like that?? I find that amusing. Even Prabhu Deva could pretend he was a better Punjabi than Aamir. Anyhow, moving on to the whole point of the movie or to the discussion whether there really is a point. Most of the people out there would imply, of course, there is and even go to extent of calling me unpatriotic for not picking up on that. Very well! Suit yourself. To me RDB still comes out as a glorified stage enacted play, as hypothetical and impractical as Romeo's attempts at getting Juliet. That said, I'd agree that it is a “well made filmâ€. I'll give it that. But in no way do I accept that it's a great film.
And since we are still at the mall (kinda :P) here's what I noticed. All these big bazaars, apna bazaars and other huge discount/non-discount retail outlets are great, but somehow they defeat the whole concept of the mall. Let me explain. I saw that at any given time (except busy shopping days) there were twice more staff in the mall than actual shoppers. And I'm not talking about people working at the checkout or carrying stuff around. No. There I was looking at the section where all the juices etc. were and two people come up to me “Sir, What are you looking for, May I help you?â€. Guys, the purpose of all these sections open to public is that they see things, they drop them in their baskets/trolleys if they feel they want them. If I cant find something I'll ask you 
Whats the point of displaying all these products if I still have to go to the shop assistant, as I would in a regular shop, and ask him for a list of things I want? I was asked this question almost at every shelf. Ok, not all malls/stores are like that but a good few of them are. Is this some “desi†thing we need to come to terms with?
On a different note I had truckloads of gol gappe (pani-puri) today. It felt so good. How good the stomach feels I'll know tomorrow.

Now, I felt the same at Big Bazaar - I was asked at least 4 times If I wanted a bathrobe, a towel, a shirt and a baniyan as I waded through the alleys finding my nephew who just lost himself there. The day before we came from Abad to Blore, I purchased a big suitcase at Big Bazaar - now you wouldnt believe this - at the payment counter, I saw 4 computers acting as payment gateways, with 8 ppl on it, 2 at each PC - HOWEVER, only 1 was doing the billing! The result was a half an hour wait for that 1 billing guy to get free, who freaked out on my AMEX card - it took him another 10 minutes to search for his HDFC-Amex Swiper, another 10 to get it working, by which time I gave him a VISA card and asked him to get done with it.
Though I am hopeful that they will improve - I was happy to see so many juices and apples though heheheheh
Gol Gappe - yummy - I had them one day before I travelled and I survived - I am pretty sure you did too

About malls.. hehehe.. you have no idea how much I’ve snapped at those assistants - sometimes, my glares are enough to get them out of my way, but then, when I’m with my dad, I just ignore them!
And for Suyog, Big Bazaar - Once I saw insects in a bag of pasta - I should have gone to consumer forum and complained - but i just brought it to their notice and they got it replaced - I would not be surprised if some of the food packets were beyong expiry date! Plus, their payment counters are so narrow!! It looks as if after the whole thing was constructed, they put the payment counters as an afterthought!

Anyway, about gol gappe - I must go and have them soon!!! Ever since Suyog mentioned them, I have been dying to have them - My record till date is 20 at a time!!!!

Ok I never thought you and I could have the same opinions on anything, but yes, I kind of agree with what you have to say about RDB..it was certainly Not great…Well made, well tackled and refreshing, yes, for sure! I thought they sort of messed up the second half of the movie. Made it too unrealistic.. What i feel is, if they have to prove a point through a movie, at least make it feasible and approachable, and not advocating youthful impulsive decisions and brainless violence. I belv, the movie had a lot of potentional, and yes, i parts it really hits the nail on the head! Specially in that one scene, a little after the interval, when the friends are discussing the Brain Drain issue in the club. I thought that was some good food for thought.
Anyways, moving to shopping malls ( ah…home ground :D!) I think i’m gonna eat,sleep, and SHOP
there for the 15 days that i’ll be in delhi!! And gosh! Gol Gappe..and South Ex ki Chaat is No.1 on my list of eatables :D!! I’m totally gonna pig out!!!
As for shopping…well that is the MOST important thing to be done on my trip :D:D!!
And yeah..female-accompanied-shopping is funnnnnnnn!!!! :D!!
