Thanks for calling

The invention of the telephone was a great boon for mankind. I wish Mr. Bell though, had laid out a few rules about how to use it properly. And that, those rules were taught to people right from grade I in school. What am I talking about here?
Don’t you just hate it when someone calls you up and then asks your name ??
The proper way: Someone calls you.. you pick up.. you say Hello.. they say Hello.. they introduce themselves (unless you have already figured out by then)
Now consider this:
Someone calls you and you pick up the phone.
You: Hello
Caller: Who’s speaking?
Your first reaction is “Hey you called me you idiot? YOU should know.” Jeez! And forget that! Since you called me you should first introduce yourself! Also, when you call me be courteous enough to answer my Hello with a Hello or Hi too and not “Is XYZ at home?” or “Can you call XYZ?” or “Did you call me?” Hey, crackpot, you didn’t even tell me your name. How do I know if I called you? It gets even stupider when someone calls you on your cell, and the chances of you not being you are one in a million.
Over the years I have developed many techniques to deal with this:
You: Hello
Caller: Who’s speaking?
You: Who’s speaking? (interesting..)
Caller: Sorry, Who’s speaking?
You: I’m sorry, Who’s speaking?
I usually use the above when I know who’s on the line but wanna put my point across.
Next
You: Hello
Caller: Who’s speaking?
You: Hello
Caller: Hello, Who’s speaking?
You: Hello (as if u dont understand a thing)
Caller: Is this XYZ? (u almost got it duffer)
Next
You: Hello
Caller: Who’s speaking?
You: Its me.
Caller: Sorry..
You: Its me. Is it you ? (this really confuses them..)
Caller: Hi this is XYZ (now you got it dumbo)
Next
You: Hello
Caller: Who’s speaking?
You: I dont know who’s speaking.
Caller: Pardon..
You: I dont know who’s speaking. Do you know who’s speaking?
Caller: (confused..)
You: Oh! You are asking who’s on the phone.. Sorry Sorry.. Its ME !
Caller: Hello this is XYZ (confused as hell..)
Next
You: Hello
Caller: Who’s speaking?
You: Yes
Caller: Hello
You: Yes
Caller: Hello, Who’s speaking?
You: Yes
Caller: (totally confused now..) Can I talk to ABC!
You: Yes (this really throws them)
Caller: Hello this is XYZ,.. (finally!)
Of course I have a few more up my sleeve but this should give you a good starter. And yes, thanks for calling!

HeHeHe - U reminded me of my grandpa’s close friend who cannot do without a day calling up my grandpa and having a chat about day’s goings on.
Anyhow, this granpa has a nasty habit of introducing himself as “me”. This is actually how it happened once:
Me: Hello
GranpaFriend: Who’s Speaking?
Me: Who’s speaking?
GranpaFriend: Me. [Duh!!!]
Me: Who Me?
GranpaFriend: Who are you to ask me this?!
Me: OK Bye.
And I put the phone down - laterz, I was given a sound hearing both by my granpa and granpafriend for my “insolent” behavior LOL
ROFL ROFL ROFL..
I guess I should try one or two of them next time someone annoys me on phone..
but thanks to caller ids.. i can safely ask my mom to pick up the phones if i don’t want to answer..:) caller ids are boon at a time like this!:)

Aparently it was some new client looking for my boss. oops!! :p
Next time I will use one of your techniques. Better confuse them then make them angry.(u know just in case.)
